  • Acoustic Control Systems - F13

    http://www.soundsystemsuk.co.uk/acoustic-control-systems/

The Built EnvironmentEvery building has a unique acoustic character which causes that building to be best suited only for a limited range of applications.

A hall may be designed and constructed to offer good speech intelligibility for theatrical applications or it may be constructed to compliment orchestral music or choral works.

It is very rare for a building to be well suited to all of these activities without the introduction of variable acoustics and so the opportunity to offer a variety of productions to audiences within the one hall are limited by the acoustic characteristics of that hall.

In turn this will result in restrictions being placed upon the revenue that the hall may be able to generate simply because of the difficulty of matching suitable events to the acoustics of the building and, by extension, with enthusiastic audiences.

    The Solution

Sound Systems UK Limited is privileged to have been appointed by Acoustic Control Systems BV of the Netherlands as the UK agent for their electro-acoustic enhancement system, which offers true variable acoustics. We are proud, therefore, to offer sales of new systems and, equally importantly, service support, development and maintenance of existing installations

  • Fiscale - B24

R&D presents itself in many ways, not always in the form you would imagine, but it does make the World go around.

Big Pharma, Aerospace, Heavy Engineering all invest large amounts of time and money in R&D and are rewarded by our government, but what about creativity, innovation, the cornerstones of R&D?

The amount of creativity and innovation involved in the performance industry is huge, with many projects being “one offs”.  Whether it is live shows, opera, films, TV, even museums, corporate events, product launches all have unique creativity and innovation woven into the process, production and, therefore, R&D.

The government values and rewards companies who invest in R&D.

Why?  Because such companies create jobs and wealth for the country.  Britain is no longer a nation of shopkeepers, we are a nation of creators and innovators working from small and large complexes, workshops up and down the country.

The government is putting money back into the Creative Industry in the form of R&D tax credits.  Simply put, an SME company can have 26% of their R&D expenditure paid back to them!!

Fiscale will work with you, ensuring you receive the maximum amount you are entitled to.

    Average first year claim:  £68,000.

When you consider, if this is your companies first claim, we can claim initially for two years.  The amounts can be considerable.

Fiscale will work with you to claim for this financial year, the two previous financial years and every year going forward with no up-front charge to your company.  We take a percentage of what you receive, after you receive it.

My name is Alex Forbes, working with Fiscale, my speciality is Set, Scenery, SFX, Animatronics, all live events related companies, TV and Film.  The companies involved in this sector, are the types of companies entitled and encouraged to make an R&D claim. Most Haven’t.

  • Peter Evans Studios - B21

Peter Evans Studios was founded in 1960 by the present Managing Director’s father. He had worked in the London theatre painting scenery for many years and wanted to move from producing scenery in 2 to 3 dimensions. It was better lighting and change in taste that made this more suitable. From the very earliest days of the company we have always carved original pieces in polystyrene, sculpted in clay and plasticine and made the final products in GRP laminating (Fibre Glass), vac formed plastic and use wood and plywood for pattern making.

We show our standard products which are made in a variety of different materials to suit different applications. All our products require painting.

0.5mm PVC is used for lots of Film, TV and Theatre scenery. Vacuum formed. It can be surprisingly durable and if looked after some pieces lasting for many years. This is fire retardant. The bulk of our orders are made in this material. Available in grey and clear or at an extra cost in white, black, green and translucent.

1mm PVC is only available in full sheets approximately 2.4 x 1.2m. Vacuum formed. It is thicker and more durable for deeper objects where the thinner plastic is too flimsy. This is fire retardant. Available in clear or white.

1.5mm FR ABS is suitable for Theme Parks, Museums and for Theatre scenery that has got to tour. This is fire retardant and tough. Vacuum formed. Available in white and black.

PETG is fire retardant to Class1 or German B1. 2mm/3mm are the most commonly formed

although we can form up to 6mm particularly suitable for hemispheres. These materials are more expensive and are suitable for more specialised applications. Please discuss if you have any suitable project.

Plaster, Hessian backed. We use a mixture of high street plasters and it is mainly used for rock faces, brick work and stone walls in Pubs, Clubs and Restaurants. It is in the highest category of fire retardancy. It is also used by some traditionalists who like to use it for film scenery. Normally white.

GRP (Glass reinforced plastic also known as Fibre Glass). This is a mixture of glass matt and polyester resin. This is the toughest and most durable material that we use and it is suitable for most of the things we make including outside use except anything that needs to be clear. Our range includes Columns, Urns, Walls and Balusters. Normally white although it can be coloured to suit.

Rotationally Moulded Polythene is used for Statues, Urns and some Columns and Pedestals that we import from Italy. It is tough and durable but not the most fire retardant but modestly priced and comes in white.

Our Shortwood Carvings are made from Injection Moulded FR ABS, off white in colour. It is a very fine decoration and can be used in almost every situation and can be bent with the application of heat. The Shortwood carvings business has been running since the 1950’s and purchased by us in 2007. The range has been revived and enlarged. A new catalogue is available.

The Royal Opera House London The Copenhagen Opera House The Barbican Centre London The National Theatre London The Scottish Conference Centre Gatwick Airport England Newark Airport USA

    Oxford University

Race Furniture will be showcasing their unique folding theatre chair that has been used extensively in the recently refurbished Dorfman Theatre at London’s National Theatre and a modified version at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Through a detailed design and development programme Race has engineered a comfortable and supportive pair of chairs that fold down smoothly and efficiently in a robust steel box that can be used as stage flooring.

Seventy of these boxes make up the stalls seating area at the NT and within a 15-minute period these boxes can be fixed in an upright position or conversely can be folded from their upright position in order to create a complete flat stage floor. An example of a functioning two seat box can be seen and demonstrated on Race’s stand.

Race will also be showing a variety of seat heights of its ever popular Stanway high density stacking and linking chair with seat heights at 450, 600 & 750mm. With the use of the Stanway mobile trolley a total of 30 chairs can be stacked. Numerous projects have found that the Stanway chair satisfactorily combines seating comfort and support with a high number of stacked chairs.

Continuing with the theme of presenting innovative products visitors can also try out the Race Chavenage ‘compact’ chair that has been specifically designed for exceptionally tight spaces. Through a clever shaping of the laser cut leg frame and a uniquely profiled and supportive back rest Race have been able to produce a chair that is both comfortable and extremely space efficient. Come and take a seat and enjoy the comfort and support of this unique compact chair.

Freecyce for Theatre and the related industries

Set up in 2011, Set-Exchange.co.uk is a freecycle website for Theatre and the related creative industries.

Our community based project provides an online message board to share and re-home your unwanted set, props, costumes, or anything really. We ask you to save your set from the skip and share it with others. To date posts have included all sorts, from auditoriums worth of seating, full sets, an Ice Cream Van, humble masking flats, lighting equipment and rosta. Anything goes! We promote sustainability, waste reduction, and the sharing of our resources across our industry.

Last year we launched a new sister project to Set-Exchange.co.uk called ThePropsList.co.uk. This new website is aiming to become the first UK wide community based database of all of the props cupboards, costume stores and set warehouses in the country.

Based on the idea of sharing our resources, we want to build an online resource of the contents of every Theatre Company and Venue’s prop stores. From the smallest pub theatre to the biggest flagship companies, and every Commercial Hire Company and Set Builder, we you all to join our project and list your stores with us. You can list props, costumes, set or lighting, and you can chose to charge to hire out your items, or you may just wish to offer to loan or share your items with the wider community for nothing. Like Set-Exchange.co.uk, the new project is free for all to use.

  • Showcomms - F19

We will be demonstrating an Eartec Ultralite System with up to 6 wireless headsets.

As with everything on a budget there maybe some feature on a fully professional system not available on the Eartec and then again you may be surprised at just what you get for the price.

Come along have a look, try it out and perhaps ask me some difficult algorithmic questions about TDMA and DECT6.0 that I may not be able to answer.  We offer traditional wired starter intercom systems as well.

Oh, did mention you can operate from 2 to 4 Eartec wireless headsets without a base and it is on 1.9GHz.

  • Triple E - A32

    Website: http://www.3-eee.com/

Triple E was formed in 1984 to supply the entertainment industry with mechanical products to aid the assembly, automation and construction of stage scenery. Throughout the last 32 years the company has innovated and pioneered a range of curtain and scenery tracking systems and custom designed equipment for use in the entertainment industry, which have earned Triple E products a reputation for simple design, rugged construction and ease of installation.

Triple E’s first product was the Loose Pin Hinge, which won the ABTT Product of the Year Award in 1984. The company has since gone on to win four more ABTT awards since then for its systems.

Unitrack, with its unique fabricated steel “I” beam configuration and the dimensionally identical extruded Aluminium Unibeam have now become the industry standard for silent tracking.

In 2015 Triple E became the European distributor of the American ModTruss system, this multi award winning construction product will feature on the TTA stand and Award stage.

There are eight track ranges manufactured by Triple E Ltd. These are UNITRACK, UNIBEAM, CHAINBEAM, CHAINTRACK, ERAIL, UNICYC, CHAINRAIL, and 2WAY, each fulfilling a different requirement in the market place.  The tracks are complemented by our range of Plug and Play track mounted motors that now include a DMX option. Our systems vary from simple walkalong tracks to the complex motorised Chaintracks used to vary the acoustics in concert halls. We are the first choice for variable acoustic systems in all their applications. By consistently adding to and refining our range of equipment we offer products that offer superior performance and reliability.
