Acoustic Control Systems
The Built EnvironmentEvery building has a unique acoustic character which causes that building to be best suited only for a limited range of applications.
A hall may be designed and constructed to offer good speech intelligibility for theatrical applications or it may be constructed to compliment orchestral music or choral works.
It is very rare for a building to be well suited to all of these activities without the introduction of variable acoustics and so the opportunity to offer a variety of productions to audiences within the one hall are limited by the acoustic characteristics of that hall.
In turn this will result in restrictions being placed upon the revenue that the hall may be able to generate simply because of the difficulty of matching suitable events to the acoustics of the building and, by extension, with enthusiastic audiences.
Sound Systems UK Limited is privileged to have been appointed by Acoustic Control Systems BV of the Netherlands as the UK agent for their electro-acoustic enhancement system, which offers true variable acoustics. We are proud, therefore, to offer sales of new systems and, equally importantly, service support, development and maintenance of existing installations

Doughty Engineering's new Space Saver will take centre stage on stand C30 at ABTT this year, along with a new Pole Operated Yoke and Atom G Clamp.
The Space Saver, which is already proving to be a huge hit, is a piece of kit which allows a clamp or spigot to be permanently fitted to a luminaire or projector and folded into a storage position to save space.
The Atom G Clamp which is the latest addition to the popular Atom Clamp family has been designed specifically for architectural luminaires.
Meanwhile the Pole Operated Yoke is modular in design and as such can be made exactly to customer specification from existing stock - hence a quick turnaround between order and delivery. Designed to stretch and shorten to fit any sized light, the yoke is fitted to a light with two cups which pan and tilt - and being pole operated, this enables the operator to make any adjustments from the ground, taking away the need to have ladders cluttering up the set and posing potential safety hazards.
Drapemakers have been manufacturing drapes for the theatre and events industries for over a decade, but have never chosen to generate any real publicity. The ABTT show has become a regular occasion to give the company more visibility in the industry.
Operating from their base in Derby as a subsidiary of successful live events company, Presentation Design Services Ltd., Drapemakers does exactly what it says on the tin; custom made drapes that meet budget, specification and delivery requirements, wrapped up with a fantastic service and a constant willingness to always meet a deadline. However short or ridiculous it might seem.
Great established relationships with significant industry clients have seen Drapemakers manufacturing for West End Musicals, UK and European touring shows such as Dirty Dancing and The Bodyguard, delivering bespoke show drapes to regional producing theatres including Birmingham Rep and Nottingham Playhouse, creating and fitting theatre drapes on board cruise ships in the Caribbean, Singapore and Australia, and supplying venue drapes to receiving houses such as the Arena in Derby and the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.
The Drapemakers stand at the ABTT show will feature seamstresses in action at their sewing machines and if you place an order quick, they could be manufacturing your next drapes requirement right in front of you.

A pioneering education and arts charity, LAMDA offers exceptional vocational training for outstanding actors, directors, stage managers and technicians. Our graduates are internationally renowned and enhance London’s reputation as a global centre for arts and culture.
When we introduced our Stage Management & Technical Theatre course in 1965, it quickly became a prototype for other institutions branching into this area. In 2016, we remain at the cutting edge of vocational stage management and technical training. Our alumni excel in a wide range of creative and managerial roles and include Sir Howard Panter, Natasha Chivers, David Grindrod and Kevin Fitzmaurice.
The redevelopment of our Talgarth Road home to create a new centre for drama training is in its final stages. Housing world-class rehearsal spaces and performance facilities - including the 200-seat Sainsbury Theatre, the Carne Studio Theatre and the Sackler Library and Study Centre- the fully-integrated campus will match and enhance LAMDA’s reputation and achievements, increasing our contribution to the cultural life of the UK and beyond. Work on the £28million project will be completed in the autumn, with the new building due to open its doors in early 2017.

Point Source Audio
Point Source Audio (@PSA_audio) is showcasing the new CO2-8WL, a fully redundant dual element lavalier—adding to the company’s award-winning collection of miniature microphones. The all-in-one solution offers built-in back up with precisely matched microphone elements in a single self-contained housing to achieve an extremely small footprint. The mics have weathered bloody productions of "Sweeney Todd" at the San Francisco Opera, "Richard III" at National Theatre of Oslo, Norway; and currently is toughing it out with the cast in the Broadway-bound musical "Monsoon Wedding."
Also on display is the expanded line of EMBRACE™ microphones designed for fast custom-fitting, comfort, and convenience. EMBRACE microphones come in beige, brown or black to conceal with practically no effort, and can also be colored with theatrical markers to match any hair color, skin tone, or costume. EMBRACE is also available in single, or in the newly redundant mic option.

Race Furniture will be showcasing their unique folding theatre chair that has been used extensively in the recently refurbished Dorfman Theatre at London’s National Theatre and a modified version at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Through a detailed design and development programme Race has engineered a comfortable and supportive pair of chairs that fold down smoothly and efficiently in a robust steel box that can be used as stage flooring.
Seventy of these boxes make up the stalls seating area at the NT and within a 15 minute period these boxes can be fixed in an upright position or conversely can be folded from their upright position in order to create a complete flat stage floor. An example of a functioning two seat box can be seen and demonstrated on Race’s stand.
Race will also be showing a variety of seat heights of its ever popular Stanway high density stacking and linking chair with seat heights at 450, 600 & 750mm. With the use of the Stanway mobile trolley a total of 30 chairs can be stacked. Numerous projects have found that the Stanway chair satisfactorily combines seating comfort and support with a high number of stacked chairs.
Continuing with the theme of presenting innovative products visitors can also try out the Race Chavenage ‘compact’ chair that has been specifically designed for exceptionally tight spaces. Through a clever shaping of the laser cut leg frame and a uniquely profiled and supportive back rest Race have been able to produce a chair that is both comfortable and extremely space efficient. Come and take a seat and enjoy the comfort and support of this unique compact chair.
